Skin concern

Ageing skin & loss of firmness

What actually works, if I don’t want to look different?

Fine lines, laxity and thinning skin, treated as skin quality and skin health.

Most people who come to me about ageing don’t want to look altered. They want to look like themselves, rested. Those are very different briefs. The second one is mostly about skin quality: texture, hydration, firmness, and the way skin catches the light.

So this is the other conversation. The one about the health of the skin itself.

Hands working along the cheekbones of a woman lying with her eyes closed.

What causes ageing skin & loss of firmness?

Collagen decline

Production falls steadily from the mid-twenties and drops sharply around menopause. Skin becomes thinner, less elastic and slower to repair.

Cumulative UV

Photoageing accounts for the large majority of visible skin ageing. It’s also the part you can still influence.

Barrier and hydration

Dehydrated skin shows every line it has. A good deal of what reads as ageing softens within weeks of sorting the hydration alone.

What I would do about it

Collagen induction where it’s warranted. Microneedling, or CellStory if you’d rather avoid needles entirely.

Manual lifting and sculpting work, which is genuinely effective and genuinely temporary. It builds with a course, and nothing is injected.

A home routine you’ll keep to. A retinoid you use twice a week for years does more than one that ends up at the back of the drawer.

What people have said

Nobody has written about this concern by name. These two are about the room and the hour instead, which is the part every appointment has in common.

I honestly can't recommend Hanaa highly enough. I've been seeing her for nearly two years and she has completely transformed my skin. She even helped prep me for my wedding!

  2. Jennifer Ashton

Having struggled with my skin for over 7 years, nothing compares to Hanaa's facials. Unparalleled. She is exceptionally empathetic - if you have not been to Hanaa yet, you are missing out! The absolute best.

What will a facial not fix?

I’m a skincare specialist, not a doctor. What I do can improve the condition of the skin and how it behaves. It isn’t a medical treatment for ageing skin & loss of firmness. I’d rather be straight with you about that from the start.

Anything that bleeds, changes shape or colour, or won’t heal should be seen by a GP first. So should anything painful, spreading, or arriving alongside symptoms elsewhere in the body. Prescription medication and skin cancer screening sit outside what I do.

If I think you need referring, I’ll say so at the first appointment, and we’ll work out what’s worth doing here in the meantime.

Where to start

Appointments are with me, in one room at 29 Haven Road. If you’re not sure which of the treatments above fits, book The Bespoke Intention. When you are unsure what your skin needs, leave it in expert hands.

Six questions, about two minutes. I read every one myself and reply, usually within a couple of days.
