Skin concern

Puffiness & fluid retention

Why is my face swollen in the mornings?

Under-eye puffiness and facial heaviness that has nothing to do with weight.

Facial puffiness is a drainage problem. The lymphatic system has no pump of its own. It relies on movement and manual work, and when it stalls, fluid sits in the face.

It’s one of the few things where the change tends to show before you leave.

Hands working across the brow of a woman lying with her eyes closed.

What causes puffiness & fluid retention?

Sluggish lymphatic drainage

Worse after sleep, alcohol, salt, flights and long periods of stillness.

Jaw and neck tension

Clenching restricts the drainage routes through the neck. Releasing the jaw often clears the face.

What I would do about it

Sustained manual drainage through the face, neck and décolletage.

Release work through the jaw and scalp, which is where the restriction usually starts.

Simple things you can do at home in three minutes that genuinely work.

What people have said

Nobody has written about this concern by name. These two are about the room and the hour instead, which is the part every appointment has in common.

I had the most amazing facial and massage with Hanaa. The room was so calm and relaxing, beautifully lit with candles. I felt completely at ease and would highly recommend.

First Class! Absolutely the best facial and body treatment in Bournemouth by far. Hana'a really takes her time to understand your skin and creates a bespoke treatment that leaves your skin clean and glowing.

What will a facial not fix?

I’m a skincare specialist, not a doctor. What I do can improve the condition of the skin and how it behaves. It isn’t a medical treatment for puffiness & fluid retention. I’d rather be straight with you about that from the start.

Anything that bleeds, changes shape or colour, or won’t heal should be seen by a GP first. So should anything painful, spreading, or arriving alongside symptoms elsewhere in the body. Prescription medication and skin cancer screening sit outside what I do.

If I think you need referring, I’ll say so at the first appointment, and we’ll work out what’s worth doing here in the meantime.

Where to start

Appointments are with me, in one room at 29 Haven Road. If you’re not sure which of the treatments above fits, book The Bespoke Intention. When you are unsure what your skin needs, leave it in expert hands.

Six questions, about two minutes. I read every one myself and reply, usually within a couple of days.
