Skin concern

Dryness & dehydration

Is my skin dry, or dehydrated?

Two different problems that feel identical and need opposite things.

Dry skin lacks oil. Dehydrated skin lacks water. You can be oily and dehydrated at the same time. That combination is very common, and almost always misread.

Getting this the wrong way round is why the expensive rich cream did nothing.

What causes dryness & dehydration?

Genuine dryness

A skin type. Produces less sebum, tends to flake, feels tight all over, and worsens in winter and with age.

Dehydration

A condition, and a temporary one. Caused by over-cleansing, retinoids, air conditioning, flights, alcohol. Skin feels tight but may still look shiny by the afternoon.

What I would do about it

Working out which you have, which takes about ninety seconds under proper light.

Hydration, layered and then sealed. Water-binding ingredients underneath, lipids on top. In the wrong order it evaporates.

The Nourish Intention for dryness, K-Beauty layering for dehydration.

What people have said

Nobody has written about this concern by name. These two are about the room and the hour instead, which is the part every appointment has in common.

  1. Ella Pusey

Having tried so many skincare products and facials I was nearly giving up. I tried Hanaa's free consultation and it was the best decision I ever made. She has completely turned my skin around.

  2. Nikki Mullard

I won an Instagram competition for a free 90 minute facial with Hanaa. My skin looked amazing afterwards and it was so relaxing. I came home and slept for over an hour - it was bliss!

What will a facial not fix?

I’m a skincare specialist, not a doctor. What I do can improve the condition of the skin and how it behaves. It isn’t a medical treatment for dryness & dehydration. I’d rather be straight with you about that from the start.

Anything that bleeds, changes shape or colour, or won’t heal should be seen by a GP first. So should anything painful, spreading, or arriving alongside symptoms elsewhere in the body. Prescription medication and skin cancer screening sit outside what I do.

If I think you need referring, I’ll say so at the first appointment, and we’ll work out what’s worth doing here in the meantime.

Where to start

Appointments are with me, in one room at 29 Haven Road. If you’re not sure which of the treatments above fits, book The Bespoke Intention. When you are unsure what your skin needs, leave it in expert hands.

Six questions, about two minutes. I read every one myself and reply, usually within a couple of days.
