Skin concern

Rosacea & facial redness

Why does my face flush and sting?

Persistent redness, flushing and stinging, and why the usual advice so often makes it worse.

Rosacea is a long-term inflammatory condition. It isn’t sensitive skin that got worse. The difference matters, because the two are treated almost oppositely.

It usually appears across the centre of the face: cheeks, nose, chin, forehead. It may start as flushing that comes and goes, then settle into permanent redness, sometimes with visible vessels or small bumps that look like acne but aren’t.

What causes rosacea & facial redness?

Triggers, not causes

Heat, alcohol, spice, sun, stress and exercise all dilate facial vessels. They don’t cause rosacea, but they do provoke it, and working out your own set is the single most useful thing you can do.

A barrier that has stopped working

Rosacea skin loses water faster and reacts to things it once tolerated. Much of what feels like a product reaction is a barrier problem underneath.

The over-treatment cycle

Redness gets treated with acids and scrubs, the barrier degrades further, the redness increases. It’s the most common pattern I see, and it does settle once the barrier is given time.

What I would do about it

The first phase is usually subtraction. Stopping things, not adding them. Most people arrive using between four and nine products, and several of them are working against the skin.

Treatment is barrier-first: no acids, no heat, no aggressive exfoliation, nothing fragranced. The Soothe Intention is built for exactly this, and progress is measured in weeks rather than in a single appointment.

Where redness is vascular and established, I’ll say so plainly and refer you on. Some rosacea needs medical management, and a facial is no substitute for it.

What people have said

Nobody has written about this concern by name. These two are about the room and the hour instead, which is the part every appointment has in common.

Hanaa is an absolute little gem. So knowledgeable and gifted. I trust her implicitly - her advice and treatments are always spot on. Every visit is a joy in her peaceful, calming, tranquil space.

I honestly can't recommend Hanaa enough! She has completely transformed my skin, and for the first time in my life, I feel confident going makeup-free. Her attention to detail is second to none.

What will a facial not fix?

I’m a skincare specialist, not a doctor. What I do can improve the condition of the skin and how it behaves. It isn’t a medical treatment for rosacea & facial redness. I’d rather be straight with you about that from the start.

Anything that bleeds, changes shape or colour, or won’t heal should be seen by a GP first. So should anything painful, spreading, or arriving alongside symptoms elsewhere in the body. Prescription medication and skin cancer screening sit outside what I do.

If I think you need referring, I’ll say so at the first appointment, and we’ll work out what’s worth doing here in the meantime.

Where to start

Appointments are with me, in one room at 29 Haven Road. If you’re not sure which of the treatments above fits, book The Bespoke Intention. When you are unsure what your skin needs, leave it in expert hands.

Six questions, about two minutes. I read every one myself and reply, usually within a couple of days.
